This deal has been in the works since 2001 but apparently not enough bags of money have landed with the right people at Albany. Wynn was actually a frontrunner for this gig but even he can't stomach the dysfunctional New York State Government any longer.

His Vegas investments have been been losing millions every day. His money bag has run dry.

Steve is doing very well. He runs a top notch operation from top to bottom. He knew he was wasting his time and was getting the run-a-around.

Blame the Gov for another blown chance.

The best scenario for Big A was Mohegan...I got to meet with them and listened intently during the bid process the week before it was supposed to be announced..Mohegan was sopt on in their assessments..ALl they wanted in exchange for committing a billion and a half was skin in the game from NYRA and the State...A willing partner so to speak..what they got was stonewalled..Del North bid as did the SL Green faction...neither should have passed the sniff test (litigagtion and fraud accustations) yet they were considered...Wynn and the rest are simply window dressing. The plant is falling down..the intial construction and wiring all needs to be retro fitted..SOmehow somewhere the NYRA knuckleheads believe their a commodity that will have people begging and selling their souls to partner with them..This after 5 years of nothing...The Racino is dead.

The Mohegans are gonna stick it right up their collective asses...Somewhere within the 20 mile limit will be a casino and if it comes before the NYRA debacle it will end the dream once and for all..Stay tuned the eastern end of LI may very soon have a gaming hall.

MGM had the deal back in '03 and actually began renovations at Aqueduct until NYRA caught a federal indictment. MGM abruptly pulled out as I recall since it's Jersey license forbade it from doing business with anybody facing a felony conviction.

With our blind accidental governor destined to the slag pile of history in 2010, look for the racino process to begin all over again some time in 2011.

Can't blame Wynn for pulling out. It's been 8 years since the legislation passed and of all the sites approved for VLT's, only the Aqueduct one is not yet operational.
