Weeding isn't fun but if you jump into it once a week you can keep your veggies happy with a minimum of labor. The tomato plants are going well and so is everything else although the eggplants aren't exactly setting a record for growth. I have one cucumber gizmo growing like it's going to be a monster fruit bearer. Insect damage is at a minimum since we planted the marigolds in with the crops. Many bugs that will nibble on your plants won't go anywhere near marigolds and the "Marys" last all season. They produce a natural bug repellant. I don't use chemicals with the backyard farm. Come July and August I pick 'em and eat 'em. The plants get sun, dirt, water, and sometimes a stray beer bottle cap.

I had one weak tomato plant but after the sun went down today a neighbor came over to play the violin for it.

The plant stood up bit by bit and I think it's going to make some good BLTs and salads in August.

Last night I watched a show about how grapes respond to music.

In 1972 Dirty Denise responded to music by stealing my wallet off the night table at the Star Hotel in Long Island City.

I too started a garden. It gives me someone to talk to during the day. :)

The zucchini will only give you the finger if you talk to them. If you leave them alone they will go.

The bell peppers get along with most anybody but if you have lady peppers you should never be in the backyard drunk and naked. The lady peppers don't like that.

Beefsteak tomatoes are a hardy bunch. Once they take off they go OK. They don't give a damn about your color, creed, religion or country of origin.

Cucumbers are all male. They just keep spreading all over and flash long green maleness.

Gay veggie plants die in my garden.

Nobody ever stops laughing here either.

The cukes have flowered and the tomatoes are going very well. The eggplants just mope along. The zucchini and peppers are OK too. Now going into mid-June I may have to step up the weeding to twice a week. While weeding I still dig up ancient bottle caps from the Ghost of Barbecues Past.
