Well, I'm locked away in the man cave with two 5K BTU AC units blazing away.

In the dark of my Long Island dawn it was 80 degrees at 5 a.m. Now it's 89 at 10:30 a.m. and the humidity is up in the stratosphere. It'll be way up in the 90s later with the heat index reaching for near 110.

The cats outside will steer clear of the garage - it's like an oven. I fed them well shortly after dawn and laid water into their wet cat food. Their water bowl gets refreshed and loaded up with ice during the day.

The cats lay up in the shade behind the shrubs out back and rest until evening. They'll be fine. They're cats - they know how to survive. With some good food and plenty of clean cool water available they'll be in great shape.

A heat index of 130 can get an outside cat into trouble but the heat index in New York today is "only" supposed to be tickling 110.
